Your Wake-Up Call:Uranus enters Aries

by Cortney Litwin

A monumental shift in the cosmos is about to take place, a shift that can dramatically change your life and accelerate your growth. After seven years in Pisces, Uranus, the planet of upheaval and enlightenment, is transiting into Aries on May 27, 2010, where it will stay for the better part of eight years (except for transiting back into Pisces from mid-August 2010 through mid-March 2011). The Aires energy will accelerate innovation, pioneering ideas and the freedom to express one's individuality.

Uranus demolishes the old to make way for the new. Think of it as a wake-up call that brings increased awareness. When Uranus connects with your Sun, Moon, ascendant or planet(s), it can rattle your comfort zone if you're clinging to something that makes you feel secure, but which also keeps you from moving forward. Depending on how Uranus will affect your chart, it can be a relationship, job, attitude or emotional pattern that gets swept away. People with early placements in Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn will be the first to experience an awakening brought by this transit.

Globally, during the next eight years, outmoded social, economic and political structures will be brought down so they can be rebuilt, hopefully with greater awareness of the planet as a whole. Expect some pioneering breakthroughs in technology that change our way of life. On the downside, since Uranus rules extremism and Aries rules war, terrorism may intensify before the environment/mindset that fosters such violence has been eliminated.

What makes this transit so powerful? Uranus isn't acting alone. Although it's capable of some sizable eruptions on its own, the spark that ignites the revolution will be the teaming up of Uranus, Saturn and Pluto, in various configurations -- between the summer of 2010 through early 2016.

Basically, the most critical time period of change for 2010 is late July through early September. To break it down, from late July to early August, the T-cross involving Mars/Saturn in Libra, Jupiter/Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn is sure to create some intense conflict -- sometimes violent due to Mars -- between the status quo and the need for change. Then in early August, Mars moves on, but the other planets continue to collide through early September.

Here's a more detailed list of the major upcoming influences/time periods (with some overlap) for 2010. Keep in mind that Saturn-Pluto squares, in addition to creating socioeconomic transformation, can produce earthquakes and other environmental changes.

May 22 through early June:
Jupiter opposite Saturn creates a conflict between expansion and conservation.

June 5 through mid-August:
Jupiter conjunct Uranus in Aries accelerates innovation, socioeconomic expansion and political extremism.

Late June through early September:
Jupiter square Pluto can produce extreme ideas and activities involving financial policies, political structures, patriotism and religious beliefs.

Critical: Late July through early August:
The T-cross involving Mars/Saturn in Libra, Jupiter/Uranus in Aries, Pluto in Capricorn intensifies political, social, economic, religious and environmental upheaval.

Critical: August 7-13:
Mars moves on, which lessens the energy of conflict, but the T-cross involving Saturn, Jupiter/Uranus and Pluto continues.

August 14 through early September:
Uranus moves on, which lessens the energy of extremism and change, but the T-cross involving Saturn, Jupiter and Pluto continues.

September 8 through early October:
Jupiter conjunct Uranus in Pisces can produce breakthroughs in medicine, technology and the use of natural resources, particularly oil.

Although these influences may seem daunting, they aren't something to fear. If you can trust your inner guidance, while having the courage to let go of what's not working in your life, you'll be able to handle this cycle of change with awareness, resourcefulness and purpose
